Sewage Walking:
The Invisible Palace Crossness
On 22nd September, /Lín Shí/ Movement will deliver a walking tour in collaboration with Crossness Pumping Station at the site of the Victorian sewage system. The walking tour will delve into the engineering history of sewage systems, their environmental impact, and their influence in arts and culture, including events like the Great Exhibition. We will discuss complex moral questions surrounding the sewage system and its relationship to sanitation, infrastructure, and urbanisation, and will also explore the labour behind the system and examine the concept of ‘sanitation’.
