If the work is a boat, the artist-interlocutor is a sailor. An interlocutor is someone who speaks between different acts of speech by translating, annotating, mediating, criticizing, interpreting, and extending the contents of the different instances of articulation. The practitioner, or artist, then is not the owner, or possessor of a work of art, she is someone who takes custody of what might have begun within her life, consciousness and body, but is already on its way out into the world.

An invitation to publishers

Publications are boats on an open-ended voyage. We (artists, writers, designers, publishers, etc) are sailors who steer the boats out into the world. Although we can never tell exactly when, where, and how they hug the shore, we are always faithful. Reaching out to dispersed groups of readers, publications enable exchanges of stories, knowledge, memories and emotions that transcend geographical boundaries.

The inaugural Outland Publishing Fair welcomes Sinophone art publishing practices around the world. Through dialogues, we attempts to redefine "outlandish" as a realm of proactive creation, catalyzing the exposure and development of the diasporic community of creative practitioners.

We have always held a steadfast belief in publictions and publishing. This is a cause worth working for, as creative practice endures at all parts of the world. We are also well aware of how challenging it is to maintain a publishing practice in this day and age. Therefore in London, where a craze in publishing has been witnessed recently, Outland Publishing Fair aspires to serve as a staging post where publications meet and inspire new readers, a stage where emerging creators showcase their work, and a hub where the publishing community convenes, bonds and holds together.

We look forward to seeing you in London this September, and hopefully, this will be the land where new seeds germinate.

Warmest regards,
Outland Publishing Fair
